ARE THERE RULES CONCERNING WHEN AND WHETHER I AM ALLOWED TO SWIM IN A WETSUIT?

Yes, the rules are as follows:
Pro/elite athletes: Wetsuits are allowed if the water temperature is below 20 degrees Celsius.
Average athletes: Wetsuits are allowed if the water temperature is below 22 degrees Celsius.

Wetsuits are mandatory if the water temperature is below 14 degrees Celsius.

ARE SWIM CAPS MANDATORY?

Yes. Swim caps are mandatory for everyone during the entire swim. Likewise, you are required to swim with the swim cap you are assigned at registration.

WHEN AM I SOPPOSED TO BE READY TO START?

You should be ready to start by the time the race briefing is commenced. This is usually 30 minutes before your actual race starts. Race briefing is mandatory for all participants. Make sure you arrive early at the event so you have time to find your spot in the transition zone, check your equipment and warm up.

AM I ALLOWED TO USE ASSISTIVES FOR THE SWIM?

Only neoprene socks and neoprene gloves are allowed.
Helping devices such as fins, hand plates and pull buoys are NOT allowed.
Likewise, it is not allowed to swim with a safety buoy.

DO I HAVE TO COUNT LAPS MYSELF?

Yes. In case you have to swim several laps it is your own responsibility to count your rounds.

AM I ABLE TO RACE XTERRA NORDIC EVENTS ON A CYCLOCROSS BIKE?

No. XTERRA NORDIC’S events only allow 26”, 27.5” and 29” mountain bikes and fat bikes.

HOW DO I PLACE MY PARTICIPANT NUMBER?

Your participant number should be clearly placed in the front of the handlebar. The participant number must not be neither cut in or folded.

AM I ALLOWED TO RIDE MY BIKE IN THE TRANSITION ZONE?

NO. Biking in the transition zone is not allowed. Therefore, you must not mount you bike until you have passed the mount line. The same rule applies on your way back into the transition zone; here you must demount your bike before you pass the mount line and drag your bike through the transition zone.

DO I HAVE TO WEAR A HELMET?

Wearing a helmet is mandatory. Additionally, your helmet must be approved and must be worn during the entire bike part of the race. No helmet means no participation.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL TRAFFIC RULES WHICH APPLY TO THE PARTICIPANTS?

No. All participants, as well as guests and spectators in the area, are obligated to respect the common traffic rules. Therefore, you must also take care of the spectators in the area while they also must take care of you.

AM I ALLOWED TO DRAFT?

Yes. You are allowed to draft.

AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDITION OF MY BIKE?

Yes. It is your own responsibility that your bike is mechanically well functioning. That implies: no loose wheels, functioning breaks and so on. Officials are allowed to deny you access to participation if your bike is not properly safe to ride.

AM I SOPPOSED TO FOLLOW THE MARKED COURSE DURING THE ENTIRE RACE?  

You have to follow the marked course during the entire race. Thus, it is your own responsibility to find your way during the race. Of course, we will make sure that the course is well marked.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I WANT TO PASS ANOTHER PARTICIPANT?

During a pass you can use the phrase “BEHIND”. Also, you should be aware of others using this phrase when passing you.

WHAT IS THE LAST THING I MUST REMEMBER BEFORE I RACE?

Remember to race according to the conditions. Be especially attentive to the course if it is wet. And always remember to smile at your oncoming’s.

WHO HAS ACCESS TO THE TRANSITION ZONE?

Access to the transition zone is restricted to participants with a participant number. In special cases, officials can allow access to relatives and friends.

WHAT CAN I BRING IN THE TRANSITION ZONE?

You are only allowed to bring equipment for the race into the transition zone. Additional luggage must be placed elsewhere. Perhaps in the luggage tent in the event area.

CAN I TAKE UP AS MUCH SPACE AS I WANT TO?

You are not allowed to take up unnecessarily much space. An official can ask you to move some of your equipment if he/she thinks you take up too much space and if this interferes with other participants.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE EVENTS?  

At our registration site you are able to register for all events.

WHAT SHALL I DO IN ORDER TO COMPETE ABOUT THE MONEY PRIZES?

Professional triathletes with a license are allowed to compete in which ever World Tour event or Champion Ship they wish. Thereby, they are also able to win money prizes. Anyone who wishes to register as elite/professional triathlete must be able to document that he/she is registered as a professional triathlete in one of the multi-sport controllers such as ITU, ETU, USA Triathlon, SCI, USA Cycling (road, cyclocross, track or MTB), or any national controlling agency within the triathlon sport or biking discipline. The athlete must be able to present a valid and easily read membership card. The athlete is not able to compete in the Pro-category without valid evidence of license as a professional athlete. 

CAN I LISTEN TO MUSIC DURING THE RACE?

NO. Under no circumstances are you allowed to listen to music during your race.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN XTERRA NORDICS EVENTS?

Both elite athletes and age groupers are able to participate in the events if you are to become 18 years old within the year in question.

AM I ABLE TO QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CHAMPION SHIP IN MAUI?

Yes, XTERRA Denmark and XTERRA Sweden has 40 qualifications slots for the final in Maui.

MUST I BE A MEMBER OF A SPORTSFEDERATION IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE ON XTERRA?  

No. Everyone can participate in XTERRA events.

 WHAT DO I DO IF I QUIT DURING A RACE?

If you quit during the race you must notify an official. Remember to hand in your time-registering chip.

AM I ABLE TO GET A REFUND ON MY PARTICIPANT NUMBER?

MUST I REGISTER BEFORE START?

Yes. All participant must register before they can get ready for the race. The registration takes place in the event area on the day of the race when you pick up your participant number.
